Interview Guidance
No matter how many interviews you have been to, they are
never fun. Think of them as a fact finding
exercise for both parties. Remember, an interview is a two way communication process.
Preparation
It’s still important to be prepared so that you are able to make the best possible impression. Take the time to go through these key points and you will find yourself much more confident and comfortable:
1. Logistics of time & place of interview
2. Research your interviewer and company
3. Prepare your questions; to expand on the role, the company, what markets do they work in, what do they do different from their competitors
4. Get your answers ready; most interviews will cover your skills, experience, technical knowledge, previous roles, why you are interested in the role, your next career move interests, salary preferences, how you have handled different problems at work,
In the Interview
5. In the interview: smile, listen carefully, be clear and concise
6. Sell yourself: Relate your expertise to the key needs of the job role, Define how you would add value to the company
Closing the Interview
7. Even if you feel you did not go well in the interview, remain positive as this may not be the case.
8. If you are interested in the role, tell the interviewer
9. Don’t be afraid to ask what happens next, what the interview process involves for example testing or further interviewing
10. Thank the interviewer for their time
Key Points:
· Remember to offer real life examples NOT how you would act in a particular situation
· Although the job and the applicant look suitable on paper this may not always be the case after meeting face to face. Although you may realise half way in the interview this may not be “the one” avoid becoming complacent.
· Avoid enquiring about salaries in the first interview. In Risk Management generally, employers will put a price on the table depending on your value ad offered.
· After the interview call your Hawthorn Recruitment Consultant to debrief. Your Consultant will then follow up with the employer and yourself to request feedback.
· Feedback helps all in the process learn
